“I Trusted Dr. Beckett With Not Just My Spine But My Life And I Don’t Know How To Put Into Words The Gratitude I Feel.”
“Deciding on a surgeon is always scary, but putting your trust in someone to operate on your spine is honestly terrifying. I spoke with a couple of surgeons about my case, but after my first consult with Dr. Beckett, I knew he was the right choice. Even over Zoom, it was clear to me that he wasn’t just a gifted surgeon but also an exceptional person.
When I met him in person, he had the same calming presence. He put me at ease without sugarcoating how complex the surgery and recovery would be, which I really appreciated. Throughout the entire process, including my hospital stay, he continued to reassure me. My questions and concerns were always taken seriously, never brushed aside.
Dr. Beckett performed an adult scoliosis correction surgery (in layman’s terms), fusing me from T3-L2. My surgery ended up lasting eight hours, much longer than expected, but the results were even better than we had hoped for. Recovery has been painful and slow. However, I know that I could be experiencing a lot more difficulty post op which I am not, and I credit that directly to Dr. Beckett’s skill and expertise in the operating room. I did run into some communication issues during my stay in the hospital between hospital staff and my surgical team, but I was grateful for how seriously Dr. Beckett addressed those concerns.
Now, just two weeks post-op, I’m looking forward to seeing how far I’ll have come in a year from now. I trusted Dr. Beckett with not just my spine but my life and I don’t know how to put into words the gratitude I feel.”

“I Found Him To Be Just An Amazing Doctor…”
“I can tell you for sure that moving forward with the decision to get spine surgery is very difficult. There is a lot of anxiety and fear involved. And I feel if you are going to move forward with this kind of surgery you need to find a surgeon you can trust – this is why I decided to go forward with Dr. Beckett.
I found Dr. Beckett online, and he had amazing credentials, so I decided to see what he had to say about my situation. The thing you’re gonna find out about Dr. Beckett your first visit is he’s a good doctor – He has amazing bedside manner, and took so much time to go through my x-rays and MRI’s and explain everything to me. He explained the pros and cons of getting the surgery. He took the time to answer all of my question and address all of my concerns. And most importantly throughout that whole process I never felt pressured to get the surgery – And I really appreciate that, because he’s never had spine surgery, but I could tell he understood the fear and anxiety I was going through. He knew the last thing I needed was to feel pressured into getting a surgery like this.
The thing about Dr. Beckett is he earns your trust really quickly, and this is why I decided to go forward with Dr. Beckett. So, if you’re in the type of situation where you’re considering spine surgery because you don’t like your quality of life now I would definitely recommend going and at least getting an opinion from Dr. Beckett. I found him to be just an amazing doctor, and even if you decide not to get surgery you will be glad you went to see him. “

“It’s 16 Weeks Post-Surgery And All The Nerve Pain Is Gone!”
“I’m a 60-year-old male who has lived a very active life. Some of my favorite activities include football, basketball, baseball, softball, motocross, trail riding, mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, and skiing.. I’ve also been a member of Gold’s Gym in Venice since 1983, and I typically work out 10–12 times per week.
Over the years, I’ve had my share of sports injuries. About 4–5 years ago, I started experiencing lower back discomfort. That led me down the path of acupuncture, chiropractic care, massage, and Bikram yoga. While these helped somewhat, the pain gradually became more restrictive. Eventually, I had to stop participating in many of the activities I love. In the summer of 2024, I canceled a backpacking trip, and I could no longer perform many leg exercises at the gym, especially squat variations.
In January 2025, I attended an advanced ski camp but had to leave early due to severe lower back discomfort and nerve pain radiating down my legs. The following month, I had an MRI and consulted with a neurosurgeon at UCLA. He explained that the discs in my lower back had significantly degenerated, causing my vertebrae to compress the nerves. His recommendation was a fusion of L4, L5, and S1—a common solution for this condition.
Around that time, a close friend of mine—someone I’ve ridden mountain bikes with for years—had the same fusion procedure performed by that surgeon. Although he’s in great shape, his recovery was difficult, and the surgery significantly limited his mobility. That experience made me pause.
I then spent the next six months researching extensively while continuing acupuncture and chiropractic treatments. I consulted four additional surgeons (five total), all highly reputable doctors, and received five different surgical recommendations.
A friend’s wife referred me to Dr. Joel Beckett, and from the start, his approach stood out. Our first appointment lasted about 25 minutes—far longer than any other consultation. He clearly explained the degeneration in my spine and the source of my pain. After ordering additional imaging, we met again, and he recommended a three-level disc replacement. He explained that while fusion would work, disc replacement would better suit my lifestyle and allow me to maintain a higher level of activity.
I left that appointment and spent hours researching disc replacement—studies, videos, testimonials, and reviews. Everything I found confirmed that this was the best option for me. I felt like I only had one chance to get this right, so I wanted complete confidence in both the procedure and the surgeon. Ultimately, I chose Dr. Beckett.
It was one of the best medical decisions I’ve ever made.
My surgery was scheduled for October 9, 2025. On the day of the procedure, Dr. Beckett spent time with me and reassured me—I think he could tell I was a bit nervous. He wasn’t. In fact, he confidently told me the surgery would be a success. Dr. Beckett, his PA Brian Soto, and the entire medical team were outstanding.
The surgery went well, I decided to wait six months before writing this review to fully assess the results.
Now, at the six-month mark, here’s where I stand:
From the very beginning, the nerve pain was completely gone—not even 1% of what I had before. I followed my physical therapy program carefully and returned to the gym in January with limited activity. By late February 2026, I was back skiing—cautiously at first, but with confidence after a couple of days.
Today, I’m back in the gym at close to full capacity. I’m not lifting like I did in my thirties, but last week I squatted for the first time in 2.5 years—225 pounds for 12 reps—and it felt great. I’m progressing carefully.
I feel great. The pain is gone. There’s occasional mild discomfort, but it continues to improve and feels like part of the normal healing process. I can now bend over and place both palms flat on the floor—something that likely wouldn’t be possible with a fusion.
If you’re dealing with lower back pain, I strongly recommend making an appointment with Dr. Joel Beckett.

“I cannot put into words how thrilled I am…”
“I am a 53 year old man here who spent a year and a half in pain and pursued every alternative medicine before being recommended to Dr. Beckett by another physician for severe pinched nerve issues in both arms. Dr. Beckett clearly explained that I needed C5-C7 disc replacements. I had a choice of surgeons for this procedure but ultimately chose Dr. Beckett and his team. I cannot put into words how thrilled I am, not just with the result, but with the care and compassion shown to me by every single person on his staff, including the man himself. I would trust Dr. Beckett with every single member of my family. Don’t hesitate to choose him as your surgeon.”

“This Has been Life-Changing for me.”
“Due to debilitating pain in both of my arms for more than a year, I had given up lifting and carrying, many household tasks and most of the leisure activities that I wanted to do in retirement. Dr. Beckett did an excellent job of explaining in detail the pathology in my neck and how disc replacement would alleviate my symptoms. I particularly appreciated that he spent time going over the x-rays, MRI and CT scan so that I would understand what he was looking for in each of these tests and how the procedure would benefit me. He replaced two discs in my cervical spine six weeks ago. I have not had any of the previous symptoms since the surgery and even in these early stages of recovery, I am now able to knit, sew and read without pain. This has been life changing for me. I am so grateful to Dr. Beckett and have the utmost confidence in him, his NP Brian Sorto and his office staff, all of whom are professional, compassionate and deliver high quality patient centered care.”

“Dr. Beckett and his entire staff are the best. I am in my sixth month of recovery from my L4/L5 surgery and it has been as good of an experience as I could have hoped for. Dr. Beckett, Brian Sorto and Cat Gonzales were always there to help and support me any time I would reach out. Dr Beckett is never in a rush and I always felt I was being heard. I hope I never have to go through another back surgery, but if I do, there is no one I would rather have taking care of me. Bravo to you all!”

“…My Sciatica and Lower Back Pain Have Completely Vanished.”
“I cannot express enough gratitude for the exceptional care I received from Dr. Beckett and his outstanding team during my spinal fusion surgery in January. From the moment I walked into their office, I was met with kindness, responsiveness, and a level of compassion that immediately put me at ease. Dr. Beckett’s incredible talent and expertise were evident throughout the entire process, as he took the time to thoroughly explain every detail, ensuring I felt informed and confident in my decision. His ability to make complex medical information easy to understand was truly remarkable and greatly appreciated.
The surgery itself was a life-changing experience. Thanks to Dr. Beckett’s skillful hands, my sciatica and lower back pain have completely vanished, allowing me to embrace life with a newfound sense of freedom and comfort. The post-operative care provided by his team was equally impressive, as they were always available to address any concerns and offer support during my recovery. I am forever grateful to Dr. Beckett and his team for their dedication and commitment to improving the lives of their patients. They have truly made a profound impact on my life, and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone in need of spinal care.”

“Dr. Beckett Gave me my Life Back…”
“I am incredibly grateful for the exceptional care and treatment I received from Dr. Joel Beckett. His thorough diagnosis, compassionate approach, and clear explanation of my treatment plan gave me confidence and reassurance.
After enduring a year and a half of intense leg pain and two unsuccessful spine surgeries performed by another doctor, I knew I needed a different approach. My mobility was severely limited, leading to weight gain and depression. My son-in-law, a urological surgeon at UCLA, conducted extensive research and found the best neurosurgeon for my case — Dr. Beckett. He was absolutely right!
One year ago, Dr. Beckett performed my spinal fusion surgery, and the results were life-changing. The procedure immediately alleviated my debilitating leg pain, and the very next day, for the first time in 18 months, I could walk without burning pain. It felt miraculous!
Today, I feel fantastic and have fully returned to my active lifestyle, including snowshoeing, hiking, and pedal boarding. Dr. Beckett gave me my life back, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. If you’re looking for the best neurosurgeon, Dr. Joel Beckett is the one!”
